This one builds on Stitchcraft 101. If you've taken it (or you're already comfortable with a straight stitch, backstitch, and turning a corner), you're ready for this!

This class is for you if…

  • you took SC101 and want the next step,
  • you can sew a straight line but zippers make you want to throw the machine across the room,
  • you've never bound an edge and want to actually understand what you're doing,
  • you want a project with real moving parts, not just straight seams.

Your project: a zippered pouch, medium size, finished at about 8" x 4½". Big enough for cosmetics, notions, chargers — whatever you're tired of losing in the bottom of your bag.

In this class you'll…

  • fuse interfacing to your fabric so it holds its shape,
  • insert a zipper properly, including stitching in the ditch and catching the tape,
  • construct and attach a tab,
  • bind raw edges clean, no fraying, no mess,
  • press and finish it so it looks made, not just sewn.

Zippers have a reputation they don't deserve. By the end of this you'll see they're not the boss of you!

Skill Level: Beginner – Familiar with the basic use of a sewing machine, and understands some sewing terms and techniques.
